Time for Entrance Examinations at SJC Bangalore - 2015-16

26 March. Admissions for all the Under Graduate (UG) and Masters or Post Graduate (PG) programmes have begun. All admissions are done online.

You may go to the College website and read the application form very carefully and see what criteria do you need (especially for PG programmes, you need a minimum of 50% marks in your UG studies).

This year, the first entrance test for Mass Communication (degree is called M.A., no more M.S., since that is all-India nomenclature to be had under the UGC guidelines) will be held on 12th or 14th April.

[By the way, UGC mean, University Grants Commission, the highest autonomous body monitoring higher education in India!]

What to study? How to prepare? What to prepare? What questions will be asked? These are some of the common question you will have.

Simple: the 'portion' will consist mostly of - your reading habit and passion!
i) current affairs - what have you learnt about the world around you from media - print, TV, Radio, web, etc? Political, social, cultural, media, economic affairs, etc? If you read newspapers and visit news websites and watch TV channels, you would know!

ii) Something about the media houses/agencies themselves - newspapers, editors, anchors, publishers, owners, etc.

iii) Emerging trends in media - any buying and selling, any special ads and campaigns, social media issues, etc
iv) Do you have writing and language skills? If you have them, you are welcome.

Please remember, the MA Programme is going to be really interesting one; but very challenging too! It hectic, demanding, very useful - intended to shape you into a professional, teaching you how to handle maximum pressure, how to manage your time amid many things - at the same time!

If you think you are coming only for a degree, this programme is not for you! Better look for some other university or college.
-----------
BVC - BA in Visual Communication or Visual Arts:
The 3-year UG programme BVC or VisComm or Visual Communication has been renamed B.A. (Visual Communication or Visual Arts). That is what the UGC has suggested all the colleges/ universities in India to do)
Your first entrance exam will be on 12 April - followed by interviews.
You will be tested on your knowledge of visual media and various visual arts - films, graphics, photographs, cartoons, etc. There could be a (slightly) little writing too!
