Bangalore and Bengaluru comes alive on charts

CAMPUS: As part of their assignment, the students of I year English class (CS2) exhibited a part of their project at the SJC quadrangle on Monday. The exhibition showcased colourful charts and collages prepared by the students themselves. Ms. Suma Kodandaram, the English teacher who assigned the project to the class, essentially wanted the students to give their own ‘representation of Bangalore city’.

The class was divided into ten groups. These groups had to prepare a written assignment and a visual accompaniment in the form of a chart or collage, depicting each group’s topic, which ranged from Infrastructure in Bangalore, Libraries of Bangalore etc.

“The idea behind the assignment was to encourage the students to capture the essence of their experiences in Bangalore and express it both visually and through their writing,” said Ms Kodandaram. The students were required to travel all over Bangalore city in order to gather information for their assignments.

The collages and charts prepared by the students were eye-catching. The interpretation of each topic by the group was done in an interesting manner. The collage which portrayed the comparison between ‘old Bangalore’ and ‘modern Bengaluru’ was done very creatively showing the contrast through images of an old, undeveloped Bangalore against those of the modern IT city it has become.

Preeti P, a student of IPMC, said that she had a lot of fun during the assignment, be it travelling around the city or going through books and newspapers to collect matter for her group’s assignment and chart.
